In the process of learning about color, mixing color and applying them to your carved bird or to the painting, whatever it is you’re working on, I would encourage you go to an art store and just pick up a basic color wheel. These are available anywhere.
Get familiar with it, look at it, learn what the primary colors are with secondary colors, and just a very basic familiarity with how colors work off of one another complementary colors, base tone colors, analog colors. There’s a lot of different moving parts to this equation but the more familiar you get with it, it’s a whole language unto itself, I think it would make you a lot more confident. With confidence comes the ability to improve your work and with the improvement of your work comes a better sense of well-being and your whole life will improve, so just by getting a simple color wheel. I have several of these sitting in my studio and I do refer to them from time to time and you can see that this well worn old battled proven color wheel has been in my studio for a long time and I use it a lot when I’m teaching. So get familiar with the magic of color.
